sustainability is dope

harnessing sunlight

Growing in a greenhouse allows us to harness the power and quality of natural sunlight for our plants. Our plants thrive in this natural sunlight without expending energy battling the other natural elements that an outdoor grow contends with. When sunlight is not available to us on cloudy days or short winter days, we do supplement with artificial lights in order to keep our habitat at optimal levels. Growing with the sun allows us to reduce our electric usage dramatically compared to an indoor grow.

Reducing energy use by over 243,000 kilowatts per year.

reusing soil & plant material

Our soil is an advanced eco system filled with micro and macro organisms that constantly regenerate the soil to its optimal level. Unlike most grows, we never throw out our soil after a harvest. Instead,  we re-use the same soil harvest after harvest giving careful attention to its composition and needs. The soil gets better and better as time goes on.

Saving an average of 7 tons in soil waste each year.

recyclable glass jars

We take a lot of pride in how we grow our cannabis, and it continues with how we package our product. We package our cannabis in Miron violet glass. These jars block the harmful light spectrums while letting in the beneficial UV rays. This greatly extends the shelf life of our flower. We chose to package in glass because it is more environmentally responsible, and it is a recyclable material.

Preventing over 240 lbs of plastic from entering our communities and landfills each year.

reclaimed ocean plastic packaging

Our Sana pre-roll tubes are made with 100% reclaimed ocean plastic. Not only is this material sourced from our oceans as part of a clean up effort, they are also recyclable.

Removing over 400 lbs of plastic waste from our oceans each year.

When we are unable to find non-plastic packaging materials we opt for the next best thing. Our Sana pre-roll tubes are made with 100% reclaimed ocean plastic. Not only is this material sourced from our oceans as part of a clean up effort, they are also recyclable.

organically protecting our waterways

We are a Certified Kind Organic facility. We use only certified organic supplements to amend our soil and feed our plants along with fresh water. Our amendments are amino acid based that are sourced from plant material. Unlike a lot of other commercial grows, we do not have any waste water run-off. All of our amendments stay in the soil where they belong preventing any contamination of our local watershed. We chose to grow organically because it creates a healthier end product for our customers and it is the most ecologically responsible way to grow cannabis.

Protecting Michigan’s Great Lakes by avoiding waste water run-off and watershed contamination.

reducing our carbon footprint

The pots that we use for our mother & veg plants are unique to the industry as well. We’ve opted to use re-usable cloth pots for all of our growth stages. When our babies are ready to go into veg they are housed in 2 gallon Grassroots pots that have Velcro siding. When it is time to move to the flowering stage, we simply open the pot using the Velcro and transplant them into the large greenhouse beds.  We then re-fill the pots with soil from our greenhouse to be used by the next set of clones.
